Hey, friends! Today, I’m going to be sharing with you the seven songs I have saved to my account on Spotify that I just can’t get enough of this summer. Please enjoy these, and I highly suggest you check some of these out!
Title: Oceans
Artist: COASTS
Genre: Alternative/Indie, Rock
I know, ironic names, huh? This song I discovered when listening to a playlist last month while reading at a track meet. The second I heard it I realized it sounded kind of like a song you’d hear at the end of a TV show – you know, when your favorite couple that you’ve shipped to the moon and back finally kiss? – and I had to keep listening, of course. This is a nice song to listen to while on the coast, or just chilling in your room.
Title: 5 Years Time
Artist: Noah and the Whale
Genre: Neo-Folk
I also found this song while listening to the same playlist as before. This appealed to me from the beginning with the variety of different instruments used, from whistling and a ukulele to a violin. This kinda reminds me of a sort of carefree, nostalgic summery vibe, and it’s nice to get you in that mood.
Title: Shark in the Water
Artist: V V Brown
Genre: Pop
Now, trust me, I’m the last person you’ll ever meet to like pop music, but this song is different. I’m actually listening to it on a loop currently. See, I’m a giant Degrassi: TNG fan (hit me up if you agree) and this song was used in their season 10 promo from seven years ago. This song came out in 2009, and I have no doubt most of you will think it sounds at least a little familiar from those 2009 summers. Basically, I love the Degrassi promo, therefore the song has been on a loop on Spotify for the past 24+ hours.
Title: Find You
Artist: Zedd ft. Matthew Koma, Miriam Bryant
Genre: EDM
This song I discovered through Mitch Grassi’s cover of it done back in 2014. I love the soft piano interpretation of it, which is a strong contrast to the electro house, EDM style of the actual song, and the beat drop is always the best part of an EDM song, I mean, what else? 😉
Title: Take On Me
Artist: Pentatonix
Genre: A Capella, Pop
So, as some of you might know, I love the a capella band Pentatonix, and their most recent album – PTX Volume IV, Classics – is an EP with fresh, amazing a capella renditions of some of the most classic songs, including Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Imagine by John Lennon. This is easily my favorite song on the EP, because of how bright and optimistic it sounds, though “optimistic” is definitely not a word I’d use to describe myself.
Title: Holiday
Artist: Green Day
Genre: Alternative/Indie, Rock
This song is probably my favorite Green Day song ever, though I admit I only listen to a select few. It makes me feel extremely powerful, in addition to some help from the MCR album “The Black Parade.” This song…listen to it.
Title: Life Support
Artist: Various Cast Members of RENT (Original Broadway Cast)
Genre: Musicals (Yes, that’s actually the genre.)
So, for those of you that didn’t know, RENT is my absolute favorite Broadway show ever, and I’m absolutely obsessed. I’ve seen at least a little bit if not all of nearly every single professional version, and a couple of school editions, and, though I’m not happy with RENT: The School Edition and the changes it made to the plot, I still love this track from the stage production of RENT. The song Life Support is also in the movie, but it’s not the same as the stage production.
Thank you guys so much for reading this, I know this post was probably link overload, as well as an information overhaul, but, in a way, you got to know me better through this post, as well as get a taste for what I’m listening to this summer: you know I have the most eclectic music taste ever. Really, I go from a capella, to neo-folk, to EDM, to alternative, indie, broadway, rock… I even put pop on here, for goodness sakes.
I really hope you guys consider listening to at least one of the songs listed here, and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear your opinions.
